Fo Guang Shan Western Temple was invited to conduct four cultural promotions in various communities and campuses from February 7 to 25, using presentation methods such as Lego, handicrafts, French poke fun, and the cute God of Wealth to attract local residents and students. 3,000 people participated and felt the charm of the Oriental Spring Festival.

The San Diego Community College AAPI group (Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders) held cultural promotion activities, attracting more than a hundred teachers and students. Master Miao Yi of Fo Guang Shan Western Temple led 6 volunteers to participate in the event, bringing multicultural experience to the attendees. The scaled-down version of the “Western Temple” made of Lego became the biggest highlight, arousing exclamations and cheers from the audience. They all picked up their mobile phones to take photos and feel the unique charm of Lego.

The master and volunteers introduced the New Year activities and invited everyone to come to the Western Temple to experience the Spring Festival culture. They also interacted with the handmade DIY “Dragon Dance” and the cute God of Wealth doll, attracting many students to participate. Student Maya said that she really liked the Lego display and handicraft activities at the Western Temple, and was very looking forward to and excited about the New Year activities at the dojo.

Liu Xinqing, who teaches at Adobe Bluffs Elementary School, a Chinese-English bilingual elementary school in San Diego, brought her husband Jiang Yuqing’s Lego “Chinese Festivals and Taiwanese Culture” work to the school for an exhibition on February 9, including major Chinese festivals and daily life in Taiwan. The theme has attracted the curiosity and exploration of many students. Nearly 1,000 people participated in the event. Jiang Yuqing designed an interactive session to let the children find the mini zodiac signs from the Lego works. The school staff and students all praised the exhibition and gained a deeper understanding of Chinese culture.

Poway Branch Library held a Spring Festival cultural event on February 18, attracting more than 500 community members and their families. There were booths at the event for handicraft experience, balloon modeling, and animal interaction. Master Zhiqing led the Second Branch of the San Diego Association of the International Buddha’s Light Association and the Foguang Youth to promote Taoist activities and courses, play the role of the cute God of Wealth, and conduct DIY crafts. Jiang Yuqing’s LEGO model added a strong festive atmosphere to the event; the “French Poking Fun” attracted crowds of people. By poking the blind box, participants received a bonding gift and a piece of Buddhist wisdom, benefiting endlessly.

Western Temple also participated in a garden party held by Barnard Chinese-English Bilingual Elementary School on February 25, where nearly a thousand teachers, students, and parents celebrated the Chinese New Year together. Master Jiansi Miaozang led 7 Foguang people and young people to participate in the three-good movement of “doing good deeds, saying good words, and having good intentions” in the form of games, allowing local people to have the opportunity to understand the beauty of Buddhism and sow the seeds of Buddhism in small children. in the mind. Isabel, an American young volunteer, wore a God of Wealth costume and held gold ingots in her hands, attracting many parents and children to take photos. Jiang Yuqing brought Lego models of Taiwan’s unique pearl milk tea shop, chopped ice stall, Yonghe soy milk shop, etc., which was still a highlight of the event.

Kathy, director of the Poway Branch Library, said that cultural promotion activities not only enrich the cultural life of the local community, but also promote exchanges and integration between cultures, allowing the community’s diverse cultures to blend in. She is grateful to the Western Temple for bringing Buddhist wisdom to the community.
